Comparative testing of competitive strain gages
March 20, 2025
Brief Report
The strain gages were installed on the graduation beam with HPM CC-2 adhesive and Vishay HG-1, which are close by its content. The test was performed on HTDR-1001.
As a result, all tested strain gages showed performance at temperatures up to 999°C.
Strain gages HPM STN on cement CC-2 and strain gages Vishay HFN on cement HG-1 worked well in three test cycles where beam was loaded alternately at temperatures 800, 900, and 999°C. After the third test cycle (at temperature 999°C), the strain gages on HG-1 cement delaminated from the beam. Strain gages on CC-2 ceramic cement additionally loaded for fourth test cycle at temperature 999°C and retained integrity and serviceability.
Note - the maximum operating temperature of Vishay HG-1 cement specified in the documentation is 800°C.
Measured characteristics of strain gages HPM STN on cement CC-2 and strain gages Vishay HFN on cement HG-1 are close, the differences between them are caused, apparently, by different properties of cements.
Gage factor of STN strain gages on CC-2 cement exceeds gage factor of Vishay HFN strain gages on HG-1 cement by 2...5% at most temperature values
